Three dead, many injured as articulated vehicle crashes into merrymakers on Sunday night

At least three merrymakers are believed to have died after an articulated vehicle, bearing a containner, ran off the road into them near Attico Bread factory at Abagana in the Njikoka local council of Anambra State.
A night before 15 persons reportedly died in an accident on Saturday night at a market in Iworoko Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State when an articulated truck, conveying bags of rice with the picture and name of an Ekiti Senator embossed on them ran into and  crushed two other vehicles before levelling shops.
The brakes of the truck are believed to have failed. The community has been in mourning since the accident that many fear might include students of the Ekiti State University.
In the Abagana accident, many others are said to have been hospitalised as a result of the unfortunate accident.
The driver of the container-bearing trailer, a native of Abagana, was suspected to be driving under influence when the vehicle skidded off the highway into the row of shops filled with socialising persons.
Some of the injured are on danger list in hospitals around the area, according to a source who said the dead and injured are mainly natives of area.
Police officers and operatives of the Anambra State Traffic Agency were seen few minutes ago trying to clear the heavy traffic build-up as the wreckage was sorted out.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed profound sadness over the weekend tragic truck accident that took the lives of several Nigerians at Iworoko Ekiti in Ekiti State.
In a statement from his office President Buhari, on behalf of the Federal Government, extended sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of victims of the tragedy, which has indeed brought great grief to the local communities.
“The President joins the Ekiti State Government and people in mourning those lost in the accident. He appreciates the efforts of the State Government in bringing timely succour to the victims in the aftermath of the disaster and assures them of the solidarity of the Federal Government.
“President Buhari’s prayers and thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy as he wishes the injured speedy recovery,” the statement added.
