Popular actress, Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa after her television programme, Jenifa’s Diary, has been arrested by the Police for flouting social fistancing rules at a party she and her husband organised, which has caused quite a stir on social media.
She was arrested at their Amen Estate residence in Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State.
Mrs. Akindele was full of apologies for her action, which has drawn the ire of many who see her action as a naked case of hypocrisy, being an ambassador and advert model of the Nigeria Centre for Disease (NCDC).

A statement by the Lagos State Police Command said its detectives from the State CID Yaba were drafted to the location of her party and effected her arrest.
“Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and (Funke’s husband) Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz
“They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April, 2020 or risk being declared wanted,” Lagos Police spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana said in the statement.
One disappointed commentator said, before the arrest: “Look at NCDC ambassador on covid-19, Funke Akindele, flouting both the Federal Government’s and NCDC’s directives on lockdown and social distancing. And you expect this same ambassador to come and preach about social distancing again?
“Funke had no reason to have held such a party. Why then are churches and mosques being told not to gather if the likes of Funke Akindele can be allowed to flout directives by NCDC, FG and Lagos Govt?
“The leadership of the AGN (Actors Guild) had even suspended shootings by filmmakers and asked its members to comply with FG’s and NCDC’s lockdown and social distancing.”
