Censured for a census

Must read

By Buti Sam Kputu
“Brothers and and Sisters, please stand to welcome a juggernaut, one of God’s generals. This man has preached in over 30 countries and authored over 50 books. He is pastor of the 15000-member Church; Receive Apostle, Prophet, Rev. Dr…” What an introduction befitting the status (or is it ego?) of the guest speaker.
As men, we love taking count. If we are not counting assets and laurels, we count failures and offences. Or friends and foes. There is nothing inherently wrong with taking count. Why then was David censured for a census? God saw in that exercise, pride and vanity.
Numbers we count are often an expression of subtle pride* and confidence in people or things other than God. And when we go numbering offences, we end up promoting unforgiveness and hate.
So, when next you are tempted to take a census of whatever, remember David’s folly, Solomon’s vanities, or the rich fool who did not live to enjoy his pension. May we never be censured for our census.
