“Daddy, I will not give you MY chocolate”. That was my boy’s response to a polite request for a piece of ‘his’ chocolate. These were chocolates I bought for him as a gift from a trip. He was 3 years old then. What a manifestation of childishness to deny your father what you got from him in the first place.
The Bible makes it clear that God owns us and all that is in the world. He made all for His pleasure. We brought nothing on arrival. All we are and have we owe to Him. “…FROM. Him, THROUGH Him and FOR Him are all things…” (Romans 11:36) Giving back to God therefore is not to be regarded as a favour, but a given, a pleasure and an honor.
One mark of spiritual immaturity and crass ingratitude is to ever imagine that we do our Lord some favor, for which He owes us returns, when we offer Him our lives and gifts. His goodness, mercies and love demands our all. That is our real SERVICE and true WORSHIP (John 4:23; Romans 12:1-2).
