Homeboy, Adesina, formally gets second term at AfDB

Must read

The outgoing President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina is…em…em, actually, the incoming President after a scheme allegedly engineered by the United States of America fell like a pack of cards.

But he needs to watch his steps, according to analysts, because his powerful foes do not give up easily. A petition against Adesina was thrown out after the bank’s Ethics Committee investigated accusations and cleared him. The US pushed for a review; but he was again cleared.

Adesina stood alone in the election, but was endorsed in a virtual general meeting on Thursday.

The first whiff of his re-election was when a presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted, “Nigeria’s Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has been re-elected as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). With this re-election, he will spend another 5 years supervising the affairs of the Bank. Congratulations!”

A formal statement is being awaited from AfDB.
