A resident on television lamented that they were asked to submit their firearms, which they did, but wonders why alleged Fulani militia are allowed to carry assault AK 47 rifles to maul them down.
He threatened they would resort to self help by arming themselves.
He is not alone. The Governor of the State and Chief Security Officer, Samuel Ortom, was a pitiable sight as he disclosed that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government Area.
He asked, as he has always done, that citizens be allowed to arm and protect themselves.
“If the Federal Government had taken the issue of militia herders seriously, it wouldn’t have escalated to this level,” the Governor said, as he again called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be alive to his responsibility of protecting lives.
He described the attack as barbaric and inhuman.
In the latest killings early Tuesday morning seven persons were confirmed dead, with many others injured, after armed Fulani herdsmen allegedly attacked an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Abagana community of Makurdi Local Government Area.
To drive home their point, the bodies of the slain persons were used to block the Makurdi-Lafia road to protest on Tuesday morning.
