Accountant General says £4.2m Ibori loot returned to Delta govt by FG

After weeks of flexing muscles over the ownership of the recently repatriated £4.2 million, the Federal Government has done the needful and returned the looted funds to the Delta State Government, Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris has revealed.

The amount was looted by former Governor James Ibori, seized from him, and returned by the United Kingdom government.

Idris told the House of Representatives’ Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilisation when he appeared before it
in Abuja on Tuesday.

Contrary to the position of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN, the Accountant-General told the Committee funds looted from the treasury of a state are usually returned to the state governments when repatriated.
