If there was any hope that President Muhammadu Buhari would officially transfer power to his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, it was dashed as the Presiding Officers of the National Assembly did not receive or read any such letters to federal lawmakers on Tuesday.

After comments to journalists on Sunday before leaving for London that Osinbajo would act in his absence, supported by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and his Chief of Staff, it was thought that the President would do a letter to that effect.

However, the President did not fail to praise his deputy for his loyalty and resourcefulness.

On behalf of the Federal Executive Council, Government and people of Nigeria, he felicitated with Osinbajo on the auspicious occasion of his 65th birthday, March 8, 2022, joining family, friends and associates to celebrate the man of many parts.

According to a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), President Buhari notes the worthy contributions of the Vice President to the development of the country as a lawyer, scholar, administrator and pastor, working selflessly and sacrificially to bring government closer to the people, and placing the people at the centre of governance by regularly advocating policies that support human development.

As the lawyer and scholar turns 65, the President affirms that his loyalty and dedication to duty have been most exemplary, especially in supervising the economy, which involves regular interface  with heads of public and private institutions, and other government structures to ensure synergy and harmony that put the welfare and wellbeing of all Nigerians first.

President Buhari extols Vice President Osinbajo’s courage, humility and resourcefulness, praying that the Almighty God will continue to grant him the strength, wisdom and good health to serve the nation and humanity.

Also, Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State felicitated with Osinbajo, describing him as a leader who has combined intellectual acumen with patriotism and candour in the service of the nation.

In a statement from his office, he said the Vice President is an embodiment of humility and character as well as deep knowledge which is reflected in his supportive role to President Muhammadu Buhari in running the affairs of the nation.

The Governor said Vice President Osinbajo has  brought to bear his training and experience as a legal luminary and his calling as a Pastor by demonstrating honesty, selflessness and capacity in running State affairs.

While wishing the Vice President many more years of God’s blessings, good health and wisdom, Lalong assured him of the prayers and goodwill of the Government and people of Plateau State.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, also joined many across the country to offer best wishes to the Vice President.

Lawan congratulates Osinbajo on marking the day in good health of body and mind, and in position of invaluable service to his beloved country, Nigeria, a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Ola Awoniyi, said.

“I rejoice with His Excellency, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on this day.

“Professor Osinbajo has proved his mettle in his chosen career, the legal profession, as well as in politics and governance.

“He has brought into public service integrity, humility, loyalty and a cerebral approach to solving public challenges.

“He has consistently exhibited these attributes since he stepped into his first high public office over two decades ago.

“Ever since, Professor Osinbajo has been a dedicated public servant, which has enabled him to become a significant part of the success story of Buhari government.

“I wish him many happy returns of the day and more years of good health and continued service to his father land,” Lawan says.
