Leon, not real name, has an enviable commitment and affinity to his long-time family friend, Diati. His desire to have their two families spend their retirement years in same neighbourhood is what landed him in some quagmire.
Leon had mortgaged his fine family house in order to move closer to Daiti. At the end of the day, Leon could not pay for the new house; at the same time he lost his old family house. He found himself in a double jeopardy.
The people of God in the days of Jeremiah were caught up in the same sort of double jeopardy. They abandoned The Lord, the source of Life, for idols that could not guarantee them peace, joy and salvation.
JESUS Christ is the only source of an overflowing life of peace, joy and love. To ignore or abandon Him for anything else is to suffer a double jeopardy (John 4:13-14).
