Man sets ablaze five of his step-children

The Ondo State Police Command has commenced investigations into why a 64 years, Ojo Joseph, allegedly set ablaze five of his stepchildren in the Fagun area of Ondo town, Ondo State.

Unfortunately, one of the step-children died as a result of the attack.

Police spokesperson in the state, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the suspect was arrested after the matter was reported to the police.

“We have yet to know why the man committed the act but we heard that he had a misunderstanding with his wife. He is currently in our custody and we have begun investigation into the matter. The suspect will be charged after investigation,” Odunlami said.

The suspect and his wife have twin children of their own, but no mention has been made of where specifically they were, when the man doused the room where the others and their mother was sleeping with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and set them ablaze.

Other reports said the woman and the 18 months old twins escaped unhurt.

According to reports, the woman had the five attacked children from a previous marriage.

The surviving victims of the attack are said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State.
