Relying on Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the prosecutor of a case involving a university student and the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has withdrawn the case against a final-year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Adamu.
24 years Adamu will now be available to begin his final examinations next Tuesday.
Some reports say he is billed to meet Mrs. Buhari.
He was arrested by the police in Dutse, J8gawa State, for allegedly publishing a defamatory statement on his Twitter handle against the First Lady.
Though the tweet was posted in June, it went viral less than two weeks ago. He was picked up and allegedly tortured, but was arraigned on Tuesday, before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State.
Adamu wrote in his tweet in Hausa “Su mama Anchi Kudin Talakawa an koshi”, “Mama and company have eaten poor people’s money and are filled up”. He also attached the photo of a fat-looking Mrs. Buhari.i
Wthdrawing the case against the accused on Friday, the Prosecution Counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, said the First Lady took her decision to withdraw following the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians.
