Love turns sour and deadly: On-the-run Adamawa man stabs wife for refusing overtures

When the love was sweet, they had two children, but today, she is receiving treatment for stab wounds on the head, allegedly inflicted by her estranged husband for refusing his overtures in an inappropriate place.

Mr. John Zira, according to the Police, is on the run after the tragic incident.

As the story goes, the mother of two was allegedly lured to the bush by her estranged husband, who travelled all the way from Jos, the Plateau State capital, and persuaded to do same, to meet her in Song town in Adamawa State.

Family sources disclosed that Zira allegedly left Jos two weeks ago for Song, put a call to his estranged wife to meet with him there.

He was said to have cautioned her not to tell anyone about her trip from Jos to Adamawa but the woman went ahead to inform her aunty.

On reaching Song Local Government Area on Sunday, 9th July 2023, John Zira allegedly lured the woman to the outskirts of the council headquarters and allegedly made sexual demands of her.

She allegedly declined, because as a source out it, “the bush isn’t a proper place for them to rekindle their sex life.”

Mr. Zira allegedly got provoked and resorted to stabbing her with a knife.

“After receiving several stabs from the estranged husband, the wife pretended to be dead on the ground right there in the bush.

“John allegedly later covered her with leaves thinking that the woman was dead. He allegedly took one of her shoes, money and even cellphone when leaving.

“God brought help to her when some women were passing by and they saw her screaming and bleeding profusely. She was taken to the General Hospital Song for immediate treatment ” said the source.

Reacting to the incident, spokesman of the Adamawa Police Command Suleiman Ngoroje revealed that John Zira has since fled Song where he allegedly committed the crime and is on the run because his whereabout is still unknown.

He said the case has been transferred from the Song Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Crominal Investigation Department (CID) as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola for discreet investigation.

“The victim is perfectly responding to treatment as revealed by the Investigators. Suspect is on the run and is been trailed as a moving target, shuttling between Kogi, Nasarawa and Plateau states ” he said.

“The Command is assuring members of the public that effort are on top gear to reach out to hideout of the suspect and bring him to book ,” said the spokesman.
