Legal troubles may be lurking in the corner for online publisher Sahara Reporters as the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, authorities are confirming that he passed through the school and indeed had a Third Class degree in Geography from there 17 years ago.
Melaye is known to have started moves to cause the online newspaper to pay him over N4billion for libel.
The School’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, told The Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee, investigating Dino Melaye and Senate President Bukola Saraki: “From records, Mr. Melaye “formerly known as Daniel Jonah Melaye” graduated from ABU with Third Class BA Geography in 2000.”
Melaye’s headaches began after he used the floor of the Senate to puncture the dreams of Ibrahim Magu to be confirmed as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Days after, a known sympathiser of Magu, Senator Ali Ndume, caused the Senate to initiate investigation into Melaye’s academic history, relying on a publication on www.saharareporters.com that the Kogi West senatorial district representative did not pass out from the Zaria university as claimed.
Ndume is believed to have lost his coveted seat as Senate in circumstances not unconnected with his support for Magu.
