Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari is dead. He died at the National Hospital in Abuja on Friday.
Shagari, 93, was President between October 1979 and December 1983 until he was toppled in a coup d’etat by soldiers led by then Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.
In a tweet, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, confirmed Saraki’s passing. Shagari is from Shagari town in Sokoto State.
“I regret to announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his Soul Rest in Peace,” Tambuwal wrote.
