Buhari meets service chiefs amid rising calls for their removal

Must read

President Muhammadu Buhari has had a meeting with service chiefs and Inspector-General of Police on Monday, but no official word was issued by the Presidency.
Those at the meeting include the Chief of Defence of Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant Tukur Yusuf Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammad Adamu.
The meeting comes amid rising calls for the removal of the chiefs by a broad spectrum of Nigerians, and a bitter rivalry between the President’s National Security Adviser, General Mohammed Monguno; and Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.
In leaked letters, Monguno advised service chiefs to stop taking orders from Kyari, suggesting that his meddlesomeness was worsening the fight against insurgency.
