After renewing her tenure in acting capacity for another three months, President Muhammadu Buhari, has finally bowed to pressure and sent the nomination of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Acting President, Court of Appeal to the Senate for confirmation as President, Court of Appeal.
Justice Dongban-Mensem is a serving Justice of the Court of Appeal and was recommended, as is the practice, by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for the nomination by the President, a statement from the President’s office said.
Recall that the President’s inexplicable extension of her position in acting capacity after the NJC had recommended her for the office in substantive capacity, led to grumblings and an open letter from Col. Dangiwa Umar who said the President’s action were not good for fairness and justice in the land.
