The school in Anthem video is in Makoko, Lagos govt to visit on Monday (+New Video)

The school where pupils were seen singing the country’s National Anthem and reciting the National Pledge almost knee-deep in water is in the inner-city slum of Makoko in Lagos State, a response from the state government to angry remarks on social media has revealed.

In comments attributed to the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, she disclosed that the video of the private school was shot months ago by a church seeking to raise funds for the school.

She spoke as another video of the pupils of the unnamed school surfaced showing them hopping on steps and waddling through dirty flood water to their classrooms surfaced on social media.

The Commissioner’s reaction which has also gone viral on social media reads: “The school assembly viral on social media is a low cost private school in Makoko, Lagos State.

“The video was taken some months ago by a church that wanted to use the video to raise funds for the school.

“The building has been demolished and is being built.

“Lagos State authorities are sending officials there on Monday to ascertain level of progress.

“Thanks for your concerns”.

Everyday.ng reports that many were aghast on social media when video of pupils singing the National Anthem and reciting the Pledge almost knee-deep in floodwater surfaced on Friday and by Saturday, had gone viral.
