It is official: ASUU declares strike; says Pantami’s professorship illegal

Must read

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confirmed that its members are going on strike for four weeks, in the first instance, even as it has shot down  the promotion of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, as a professor by the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State.

It says the promotion is illegal and has resolved to sanction its members involved in the promotion.

At a press conference by its President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday in Lagos, the teachers’ group says it will also sanction the Vice Chancellor of FUTO.

“You cannot be a minister and a lecturer in a university. It is an encouragement of illegality.

“Pantami has to quit as a minister and be tried for doing double jobs within the same federal system. He is not qualified. Pantami should not be treated as a professor,” Osodeke said.
