We live in very challenging times in the Church, and especially for frontline believers committed to bearing witness for Jesus. Some even speak of an “existential threat” to our faith and the Church. How should we respond?
OUR SWORDS or HIS CUP
The early Disciples were at that point in the Kindron Garden when enemies came for their Master. Peter’s natural response was to fight and defend His master and the faith.
The master had a different view of the situation. This was his cup to drink, an opportunity to fulfil His mission, and not even Peter would deny him that. He rather rebuked Peter, not the enemies.
“…Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me? … All who take the sword will die by the sword.”_
(John 18:11; Matthew 26:52)
In these trying times for our faith and the Church, would you rather bear your sword or His cup?
