Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has made a passionate appeal for the release of the leader of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), so he can join in a roundtable to find a solution to the insecurity in Anambra State.

He has also opted to stand surety for his bail, accommodate him, and produce him whenever he is needed.

Soludo made the appeal before a capacity crowd of members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the formal flag-off ceremony of the 2023 general election campaigns of the party at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital.

He burst into a matching song, “all we are saying, give us Kanu!” And the crowd joined him, singing along.

He pointed out that if the court’s decision setting the IPOB leader free wasn’t enough, he should be released to him (the Governor) as his surety.  “I am making a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally.

“If he cannot be released unconditionally, i want him released to me and i will stand surety for him”

“We need Nnamdi Kanu in the roundtable conversation to discuss the insecurity in the South East.

“We must end insecurity in the South East and we need Nnamdi Kanu to be around.”

Kanu has been in detention since he was renditions from Kenya in 2021. Soludo and Kanu had met shortly after the Governor was elected into office as part of concerted efforts to bring an end to the menace of alleged IPOB attacks, and activities of unknown gunmen in the Anambra state and the South East in general. Kanu has been facing treasonable felony charges for which a court recently ordered his release on account of the manner of his rendition.
