Barely a month after a university teacher was suspended from his exalted seat as a dean in Calabar, the Cross River State capital; another, this time in Lagos, Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 20 years old undergraduate.
The alleged rape took place in the associate professor’s office on the University of Lagos (Unilag) campus.
Police spokesman in Lagos state superintendent of police, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this on his X handle.
The victim accused the UNILAG Associate Professor of Botany of perpetrating the crime when she visited his office to sort out issues pertaining to her results.
The victim, who reported the case to an NGO, Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation (ISWEF) said that the incident occurred on the 16th of August, 2023.
An arrest warrant was issued by the State’s Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, through the state high court after ISWEF reported the case to the gender unit of the state police command and through the officer in charge of gender.
