The golden fish has no hiding place. This adage best describes the surprise visit of a delegation of Greenland News Magazine to the Gwarinpa office of Cleft & Facial Deformity Foundation honoured in Abuja.
The mission was the presentation of a Role Model Award to the founder and director of the organization, Dr Seidu Bello, this Thursday.
“We have been following the activities of Dr Seidu Bello for about six years“ stated Mrs. Peace Ofeoshi, the head of the delegation. “We believe his touch of lives, leadership qualities and mentoring of younger ones are the criteria that qualified him for the award,” she added.
Another member of the team, Jane Agboko, recounted her encounter with Dr Bello’s foundation in Kwali, Abuja in 2013. According to her, she accompanied a neighbor with a son born with cleft lip to the free surgery programme at Kwali General Hospital.
“The transformation was unbelievable at the end of the surgery, yet no dime was paid ,” she added.
In his remarks, Dr Bello expressed a big surprise at what he described as an unexpected award. “This is a pleasant surprise” he quipped. While thanking the media outfit for the award, he stated that helping humanity is his passion.
“I get a lot of satisfaction and happiness anytime I go out to help,” he stressed. He believes that the award is to encourage him to do more, adding that people should follow their passion and do the best possible for mankind.
He dedicated the award to the large population of indigent Nigeria patients afflicted with facial deformity and awaiting assistance.
